There perhaps was a time in Australia, and across the Western world, where many young people could spend their 20s exploring — the world, different jobs, music, art, love — and still settle down to live a prosperous life.
Anecdotally, I know many baby boomers who did just that, before buying a house and paying it off, including in Sydney, and still retiring at 65 (or even earlier).
